How to Reach and Tips for Visit

                                                           IMPORTANT NOTES

THE TELANGANA STATE FOREST DEPARTMENT HAS STOPPED ENTRY TO THE KARDALIVAN FOREST AREA CURRENTLY FOR SOME REASON.

NO ONE CAN VISIT KARDALI VAN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. IT IS STILL NOT KNOW WHEN THE PARIKRAMA WILL OPEN.

ALSO THE BOAT RIDE MENTIONED BELOW HAS BEEN STOPPED AND AN ALTERNATE ROUTE IS DESIGNATED FOR THE JOURNEY WHICH COVERS A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 12 KILOMETERS BY WALK FOR WHICH PERMISSION FROM THE LOCAL FOREST DEPARTMENT IS SOUGHT.

UPDATES WILL BE PUBLISHED AS HAPPEN.  (Last Updated: 9/MAY/2021)

Time to Visit : All through the year.
How to Reach Kardalivan: Srisailam is the nearest town. Depending on your location (South/North/East/West) there are different ways to reach it

From Hyderabad, one has to come to Srisailam. Its about 230 Kms by road from Hyderabad’s MGBS (Mahatma Gandhi Bus Terminus). Srisailam bus stand to Patalganga (Krishna river/Srisailam Dam) is about 2 kms. One can go either by Ropeway or using (300-350 odd)steps.

From there, a boat ride of about 1 hr 45 mins through holy river Krishna will take to a place called Venkatesh Kinara. Then one has to take a trail/hike through mountains of Nallamalla hills to reach Swami Prakat sthan. About 5-7 Kms of trail will take to a place called ”Akkamahadevi Caves”, there after about 4-5 kms will take to Swami Prakat Sthan.

Caution : Two different places(caves) are refered by similar names ”Akkamahadevi Caves”.

A bigger one among the two is on the way to Swami Prakat sthan, while other which very narrow is just a little (via boat) away from the Venkatesh Kinara.

Boat Ride :

Though an average cost of a boat ride per person will cost Rs. 500 (to and back from Venkatesh Kinara), the boat will not start the journey till they get minimum of 20 persons (or equivalently the amount of 20 persons!!).

This is one of the reasons we are thinking of creating a website/platform where different groups/individuals can post there journey dates. It should help smaller groups to hire/share a boat, eventually keeping the boat ride cost near to Rs. 500 per person.

  2. Recently, I visited SriSailam town. Have heard about permission from forest department is needed to visit Kardali van due to some Local issues with. Althoug, I can not confirm this, but suggest you to go with One extra day to spare in case this is mandatory.
As taking permission may take time!!
Also, try to meet local people to arrange a guide in case you are visiting first time and possibly going in small group.

    Wish you happy Journey.

    1. Thanks for the information. If you know how and where to get permission, please let us know the details. We would be happy to include details in this blog. For us, we were only 6 people hence it might be possible that locals suggested us not to go with permission formalities.

    1. It would be very difficult given the time frame.
As Boat ride itself takes about 1.5 hrs one side, and there might be restriction on timings of the boats.

  4. If you can arrange boat from Srisailam at 5 AM then you can return by 10 PM to Srisailam. But it is largely depends upon the restrictions on boat timings. When I was there, a group of 70 people have make arrangements for 5 AM departure from Srisailam and there was another group leaving at 8 PM from Venkatesh Kinara. If there are some restrictions imposed in recent times, then I have no idea on it. I would recommand talk to local people and have at least 1 stay in Kardali Van.
The aashram at Venkatesh Kinara and Aakama Guha are two places wherein you can stay. I would suggest aashram at Venkatesh Kinara is better place since Aakama guha is in deep forest.

  5. Hello All,

Thank you for this valuable information. I would like to confirm that can individual traveler without any group can visit this place?

  6. Hello Yash, one can surely visit the place as an individual. The only hurdle one may face is for the boat ride, which charges usually per group and not per person. Recently one of my friend had been there as an individual, what he did was he made some acquaintances with other visitors on reaching there and joined their group run time and successfully did the journey and completed the visit.

  7. Or you may convince some local guy like boat drivers or local guides to add you to the other visiting groups.

  9. There are several boat services available. However they work in rotation model. I would suggest you to go to the PatalGanga and talk to the boat drivers directly. It's not possible to predict who's chance is it to provide services.

    2. Hi Pramodji,
I am planning to do kardalivan parikrama individually on 11th Dec 19.
Please guide me on the same.
Please provide your contact details for discussion

    3. Sorry couldn't reply you as didn't receive this message in time. Actually the entry is still prohibited but a Pune based resource is offering the tour package solely based on their resources at Kardalivan/ Srisailam. So it can be concluded that, if you go on your own, you may not get entry permission. You may contact the resource at Pune as someone has mentioned/suggested in the comments.

    1. No updates on individuals doing parikrama. However, I read about the kardalivan yatra organized by a group in Pune. I did not get much information from them, if we want to do it of our own. You can google and get details of the organization and connect with them at your own risk.
